In this presentation\, Lynn Caponera and Dr. Jonathan Weinberg will discuss the world of the famous illustrator\, author\, and Ridgefield resident\, Maurice Sendak.The program is sponsored by Allison and Rob Sanders. Lynn Caponera and Dr. Jonathan Weinberg will invite and guide us into the Sendak world\, discuss the Sendak creative process\, and his Ridgefield\, CT home and studio where he lived and worked for forty years. \; Sendak’s love of books\, his art collection\, his passion for 19th century romanticism\, and the popular culture of the 1930s\, inspired his massive collection of work – children’s illustrations\, books\, costume and stage design -- that has produced countless hours of joy to his audience. The recipient of the Caldecott Medal\, the Hans Christian Andersen Award\, the Laura Ingalls Wilder Award\, the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award\, and the National Medal of Arts\, Maurice Sendak remains the most honored and beloved children’s book author in history.\n\nLynn Caponera\, Executive Director and President of the Board of The Maurice Sendak Foundation had a 40-year history with the celebrated artist Maurice Sendak. She began\, in her teens\, working for Sendak taking care of his household and over the years became his primary assistant and administrator until his death in 2012. Since then\, Caponera has overseen all aspects of the Foundation including its philanthropic mission and its supervision of the work and legacy of Maurice Sendak.\n\nJonathan Weinberg\, Ph.D.\, Curator of The Maurice Sendak Foundation\, is an artist and art historian. He was a close friend of Maurice Sendak. His most recent book is Pier Groups\, Art and Sex along the New York Waterfront\, and he was the lead curator for the 2019-20 touring exhibition\, Art After Stonewall\, 1969-89 organized by the Columbus Museum of Art.
