- Understanding the transgender and non-binary identity and community
- Importance of allyship in real life situations; understanding how LGBTQ+ individuals, particularly TGNCNBI (Transgender, gender nonconforming, non-binary, and intersex), are impacted by bias; and an overview of best practices to protect safety and inclusion.
- Understanding what is meant by sexual orientation, sexual identity, gender identity, gender expression, and sex assigned at birth - their differences and how they impact one another.
- Language and definition of terms associated with the LGBTQ+ community, including lesser known terms.
- Understanding notions of hetero-normativity, gender/sex binary, and cis-normativity.
- Rethinking social norms and expectations surrounding sexuality and gender in our society.
Dr. Robyn Schlesinger (she/her) is an attorney and educator who has worked extensively with the LGBTQIA+ community, nonprofit organizations, and institutions of higher education. Robyn has also consulted with businesses, schools, and organizations to create inclusive workplaces and environments. She is currently the director of LGBTQIA+ programs, resources, innovation, development, and engagement (PRIDE) for Westchester Jewish Community Services (WJCS), the parent organization of Center Lane for LGBTQ+ youth. Robyn is a trustee of The Leonard-Litz LGBTQ+ Foundation, a director with The LOFT LGBTQ+ Community Center in White Plains, and serves on Westchester County’s LGBTQ Advisory Board, the Westchester County Police Reform Task Force, and the 9th Judicial District Access to Justice LGBTQ+ Subcommittee. Her career in nonprofit/higher education development and law has included senior management roles with the University of California, Berkeley, the Zoological Society of San Diego, Singapore Management University, Westchester Community College, and Western Connecticut State University. Robyn graduated from Harvard College with an AB cum laude, received her JD from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law, and her EdD from Manhattanville College.
