Event Details

Please join us for a special poetry seminar series with Judson Scruton as part of this year’s Wilton Reads program which features Cristina Henriquez’s The Great Divide, an epic novel on the construction of the Panama Canal. His series will run on four Thursday mornings starting on April 4 at 10:30am. A packet with a detailed schedule of readings and links to the poems will be distributed in advance.

As part of this year's Wilton Reads at Wilton Library, Judson Scruton will conduct four seminars mingling literary responses to two massive undertakings that connected the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans:
  • the building of the Transcontinental Railroad (1863-1960) featuring poems by Bret Hart, Walt Whitman, Theodore Roethke, and others
  • the building of the Panama Canal (1904-1914) featuring Henriquez’s novel The Great Divide
Although he will be making references to the novel throughout the series, the primary discussion related to the novel will be on the fourth Thursday of these seminars, April 25th.

Advance registration is required. Register online or call 203-762-6334.  There is no charge for this program. By registering for the first session you will automatically be registered for all four sessions. This lecture series is made possible with the support of the Literary Series in Memory of Amy Quigley.  Please email Andrea Sato with any questions at asato@wiltonlibrary.org.
