Please join us in person in the Brubeck Room for an educational workshop that may help you in these volatile times. Michael Alimo from USA Financial and Tax Services returns to Wilton Library to discuss how inflation and taxes may affect your retirement.

Given the low level of inflation, is it still an issue for retirement savers and those using their savings to finance retirement expenses? Since 2009, inflation averaged about 1.8% per year. Over the last 50 years, inflation has averaged about 3.2%.

Due to the low inflationary & interest rate environment, investors have found it next to impossible to receive an acceptable rate of return to keep pace with inflation in traditional CD’s & Money Market accounts. This erodes the “purchasing value” of your money for everyday needs. The question for retirement savers is how to mitigate the impact of inflation. The answer lies in creating a diversified portfolio that includes equity investments.

Taxes have been a concern for many Americans for decades now. With rising deficits on the federal, state and municipality level, where does that leave the taxpayer? As they head towards retirement most Americans have squirreled away a fair amount of assets “tax-deferred”.  What are these assets truly worth when needed? Currently tax law changes are being discussed and changes may be coming. Get prepared.
