This Long & Short presentation has been canceled. An alternative date in the New Year will be announced in due course.

Should CEOs and investment managers focus solely on profits or embrace a broader set of environmental and social objectives? Why are some politicians attacking big business? And, what is ‘ESG’ anyway? Join us for an examination of what’s really going on as companies grapple with the culture wars and some politicians abandon traditional allies.

Is “doing good” bad for us?  Some politicians are criticizing big companies, such as BlackRock, JPMorgan Chase, and Disney, for adopting ‘woke’ policies. The battleground is ESG, which stands for Environmental, Social, Governance. One side alleges ESG to be a ‘radical agenda’ that puts investors’ money at risk in favor of progressive politics; and the other side alleges it to be good business that optimizes the long-term well being of a corporation for all stakeholders.

After the successful foray into the Long & Short of Healthcare last year, our speakers, Mike Boswood and Joe Magnano, have decided to enter the hornet’s nest of organizational morality. They intend to expose fallacies and falsehoods on both sides in a way that stimulates, entertains and possibly irks you, but which hopefully leaves you – whether as an investor, shareholder, employee, constituent or politician – with a clearer idea of how to interpret current events.

Mike Boswood – the ‘long’ of it. Former CEO of Truven Health Analytics, Thomson Reuters Healthcare & Science, Joint MD of Elsevier Science.  Joe Magnano – the ‘short’ of it. Former Global Head Legal M&A, Finance and Investments at Zurich Insurance Group.
