Renee Rosnes is one of the premier jazz pianists and composers of
her generation. Upon moving to New York City from Vancouver, she quickly
established a reputation of high regard, touring and recording with
such masters as Joe Henderson, Wayne Shorter, Bobby Hutcherson, J.J.
Johnson, Ron Carter and the all-star ensemble, the SFJAZZ Collective.
Her 2016 recording Written in the Rocks was named one of the ten Best Jazz Albums of the Year by The Chicago Tribune, one of the Best Albums in all genres of music by The Nation, and was honored with a 2017 Canadian Juno Award. JazzTimes wrote: 'Ms. Rosnes delivers conceptual heft, suspenseful compositions and mesmerizing performances.'
Rosnes is married to pianist Bill Charlap [who played the Brubeck
Room in our 2014-15 Hot & Cool season] and the husband/wife duo was
featured on four tracks from the Grammy Award-winning album Tony Bennett & Bill Charlap: The Silver Lining, The Songs of Jerome Kern.
Peter
Washington is perhaps the most recorded bassist of his generation with a discography
of more than 500 recordings. Having played with Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers, the
Tommy Flanagan Trio, and the critically acclaimed Bill Charlap Trio, Washington
has been the bassist of choice for such artists as Dizzy Gillespie, Milt
Jackson, Johnny Griffin, Tony Bennett, Jackie McLean and Cedar Walton, among
many others. With his emphasis on creative, supportive
playing as well as inventive and intelligent soloing, he has rightly been
compared to the likes of such legends Milt Hinton and Ron Carter.
