DESCRIPTION:Please join us for a four-week online seminar series led by Judson Scruton on the poetry of this year's Wilton Reads author and poet Natasha Trethewey whose poetry often reflects her experiences growing up with prejudice and miscegenation [i.e. mixed-race marriage and families].\n\nNatasha Trethewey is a 2007 Pulitzer Prize-winning poet and the 2020 author of a widely-acclaimed memoir— Memorial Drive. In her five poetry collections she explores her own mixed-race experiences growing up in Mississippi and Georgia as well as other mixed-race women’s experiences in earlier times. Blending free verse and traditional forms she creates vivid\, powerful portraits of women’s lives. She is the recipient of numerous grants and awards for her poetry including a Guggenheim\, a Rockefeller\, and the National Endowment for the Arts. She was the U.S. Poet Laureate (2012-2014). She is currently the Board of Trustees Professor of English at Northwestern University.\n\nNo charge for the program.
